Comox Valley Affordable Housing Engagement

District of Highlands, BC

Project Description

The Whistler Centre assisted the Comox Valley Coalition to End Homelessness to launch their “Affordable Housing Benefits Everyone Campaign” with a focus on engaging community members in a conversation about the importance of affordable housing in the community.

In September of 2018, an “Ideas Wall” was moved throughout the valley to seek input from residents on the questions of what type of housing community members have lived in before, currently live in and anticipate a need for in the future. Participation was easy and the wall saw plenty of activity.

Housing Stories were posted to the Comox Valley Coallition to End Homelessness website to engage digital users in helping define what housing types are needed now and in the future.

Conversation events with interactive and guided stations for people to learn about different housing types, and to express their thoughts, concerns, suggestions, and to ask questions will be held in October 2018. Participants can also join in at a hosted table conversation to discuss their thoughts with others, responding to a series of questions to guide the conversations.
