Deborah Curran, Principal, Deborah Curran & Company & Senior Instructor, Environmental Law Centre, Faculty of Law University of Victoria

Deborah Curran is a land use lawyer who has a decade of experience developing legal strategies for smart growth land development and urban sustainability. She advises all levels of government and community groups across B.C. on all aspects of sustainability with a particular focus on growth management, green infrastructure, the agricultural land reserve, and affordable housing.

Deborah also works with the Environmental Law Centre at the University of Victoria to educate the next generation of public interest environmental lawyers. She teaches Municipal Law, Real Property Transactions, and the advanced Environmental Law Clinic, and is the author of numerous reports, including the Green Bylaws Toolkit and the Smart Bylaws Guide website. Deborah co-founded Smart Growth BC and served as its president for five years, and is currently a board member of the Victoria Foundation.

She is recipient of the 2008 Smarty Award in the “people” category from Smart Growth BC for outstanding achievement.
